Star Trek Metaphors of the Real World (according to me)

  • Romulans = Suspicious closed society, Burma? North Korea? USSR?
  • Kingons = Any Violent tribal culture where honour reigns supreme
  • Ferengi = Capitalist Humans
  • Cardassians = Military Dictatorship, North Korea? possibly China ?
  • Bajorans = Highly Religious cultures
  • Vulcans = Upper Class Snobby Humans
  • The Federation = Socialists / Communists
  • Changelings (Dominion) = Persecuted people who exercise power and will over their neighbours, hmmmmmm ?
What do you think? am I wrong? do you have any to add ? Comment below !

I'll meet your opinions half way. I agree only with some modifications.

Romulans- A closed society, xenophobic, intolerant, paranoid, devious. USSR, N. Korea would be a good example.

Vulcans- Don't represent a certain group of people. They represent a part of ALL humans. They simply represent the part of humanity which makes us unique: our intelligence, curiosity for intellect, our use of logic. Sometimes humans will supress our emotions in favor of logic to understand something better, just like the Vulcans.

Ferengi- Agreed. They represent greed. Unethical Capitalism is but one example.

Klingons- Represent the side of humanity that wages war and justifies it with words such as duty and honor. Don't nations give their soldiers medals for sacrificing themselves in battle? The "Medal of Honor?" They represent our savage, violent side.

Cardassians- I was thinking more along the lines of Nazi Germany. They had "camps" similar to Auschwicz, they were brutal, miltaristic, jingoistic.

Bajorans- represented the religiously oppressed. Thay were stubborn, poltical, resentful (and rightfully so).

Borg- I believe they represent people who can't think for themselves. Who rely on a collective group to tell them how to think. I believe they were Roddenberry's way of telling us that technology can cause just as many problems as it solves, and that we must never forget our unique human nature.

Betazoids- Are like the counterpart to Vulcans. They represent our own emotional component. Although I believe that the Betazoid metaphor is a hyperbole.

Trill- My guess is that they represent the part of us that gives us our identity. In this case, a Trill's personality, memories, and experiences are more important than the body. There seems to be a metaphor here about the soul and reincarnation (by way of the symbiote).
