He convinced her to stay. For very good reasons.
I would wager that many Star Trek fans are already well aware of this event, in fact I would say it is actually quite famous in the Star Trek fraternity, especially among those (like me) who subscribe to Roddenberry's ideology, but it is nice to see it getting a little bit of media attention, albeit over 40 years late.
'Thank God that someone knows what I'm trying to do. Thank God for Dr. Martin Luther King'.
